The Role of Trust in Philanthropy
This keynote is part of the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance’s 2020 Virtual Conference.
The root meaning of philanthropy literally translates to “love of humanity.” But how often do practitioners in philanthropy take a moment to truly recognize and embrace the role of love, trust, and relationships in the work that we do every day? In this fireside chat-style keynote presentation, we’ll hear from Carrie Avery, president and trustee of the Durfee Foundation and Steering committee member of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, as she invites us to consider these questions: 1) How can a trust-based approach bring us closer to the purpose behind our work?; 2) How can it bring more joy and genuine learning to our work?; 3) What opportunities does this open up for our sector, and for society as a whole?; 4) What are we learning about the impact of a trust-based approach during the extreme disruption of the Covid crisis?
This keynote is immediately followed by a panel discussion featuring three Indiana-based funders as they share more about how they’re working on prioritizing trust and relationships in their work.
