This session is part of the 2021 Fundamentals of Effective Grantmaking virtual course, which will be offered on multiple Thursdays in October and November. Registration required.
This introduction to trust-based philanthropy is part of SoCal Grantmakers’s signature training offered to foundation staff and trustees with less than two years of experience in the field as well as seasoned philanthropic professionals looking to revisit their core grantmaking competencies. Participants will learn essential grantmaking skills, gain new connections, and practice applying these lessons in the workplace. This session will focus on trust-based philanthropy as an approach to grantmaking that seeks to redistribute power -- interpersonally, organizationally, and systemically. Shaady Salehi, Director of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, will introduce attendees to the purpose and vision of trust-based philanthropy, the core grantmaking practices that constitute a trust-based approach, and how this model intersects with organizational values, culture, structures, and leadership.
