Trust-based philanthropy is not just what you do in policy and practice; it’s how you do it. And because funders enter into relationships with nonprofits from an inherently privileged position, it’s on us to set the tone for more balanced and equitable relationships.

At its core, trust-based philanthropy is about how we as individuals show up in our relationships. This two-page overview offers six considerations for anyone—regardless of role or position—who wants to proactively build  relationships of mutual trust. While these tips are predominantly intended for relationships between funders and grantee partners, they can also be applied to relationships between CEOs and staff, between CEOs and trustees, and between grantee partners and communities.
