This breakout session is part of the Philanthropy Leads Conference hosted by Indiana Philanthropy Alliance happening September 27 - 29, 2022 in Indianapolis, IN. Registration required
Trust-based philanthropy is much more than unrestricted grants and streamlined paperwork. At its core, this approach is fundamentally about recognizing and addressing power imbalances in service of a healthier, more equitable, and more impactful nonprofit sector. This requires a commitment to relationships based on transparency and mutual learning—both internally within our organizations and externally with our grantee partners. Led by Phil Li of the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, an early adopter of trust-based philanthropy, this mini dive explores what it takes to embody the spirit of this work, the process of building trust and mutual accountability, and what we need to do inside our organizations to build a culture that enables the work to unfold. Additionally, you will learn about two foundations’ journeys in trust-based philanthropy so far, including their pitfalls, successes, and possibilities for the future of their grantmaking and community partnerships.
Speakers:
Phil Li, President & CEO of the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation
Drew Black, Director of Grantmaking, Arthur Dean Foundation
Jennifer Danic, President/CEO, Steuben County Community Foundation
