Trust-based philanthropy challenges foundations to reimagine their relationships with grantees, focusing on collaboration, transparency, and reducing power imbalances. In this approach, trust is not the end goal, but rather the gateway to advancing equitable social change.
But when it comes to understanding and assessing impact, many funders get stuck. How should we define our impact in a trust-based context? What is the appropriate way to collect data from grantees without being extractive? Is rigorous evaluation at odds with the principles of trust-based philanthropy?
Join us in San Francisco (the unofficial birthplace of trust-based philanthropy) for a Lunch, Learn, and Connect event at The Women’s Building, on January 21st from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Hosted in partnership with the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, this session features Shaady Salehi from the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, who will discuss practical ways to rethink learning and evaluation with a focus on trust, equity, and shared accountability.
During this session, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Learn how foundations are leveraging learning and evaluation to support their goals for trust-based philanthropy.
Connect with peers to share ideas about balancing flexibility and accountability in grantmaking.
Share your own experiences and stories about how learning and evaluation has informed your foundation’s work and relationships with grantees.
This event provides a space to exchange stories, strategies, and actionable approaches for making grantmaking more equitable, reflective, and impactful.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
We look forward to seeing you there!
