This breakout session is part of the Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA) Fall Retreat for 2022, happening October 11-14, 2022 in Chicago, IL. Registration required
While funders are beginning to pay attention to the racial equity impacts of their grantmaking, few have adopted more systemic changes to redress historic power imbalances within philanthropy. Trust-based and participatory grantmaking practices can unlock more funding for communities most affected by structural racism and involve these communities in deciding where funds should be allocated. This session will engage funders in a dialogue about the benefits and challenges of trust-based and participatory grantmaking. The session will feature the Chicago Frontlines Funding Initiative and the Equitable Building Electrification Fund: A Collaboration for Frontline Communities.
