A Nuts & Bolts Story of Learning Together with Trust-Based Evaluation

This workshop is part of the GEO Learning Conference. Conference registration is required to attend.

The trust-based philanthropy movement has challenged foundations to rethink power dynamics and hierarchical norms that exist in the typical funder / grantee relationship. The Headwaters Foundation – a relatively new health conversion foundation in Western Montana – has adopted a trust-based philanthropy model and in this panel discussion, you will have the opportunity to listen and learn from, and ask questions of Headwaters staff, one of their grantees, and their evaluation partner, who all worked together to build a learning experience that positions nonprofits and the foundation as true partners in the work to improve health equity in Western Montana. This session will look at the process Headwaters took to build consensus on the foundation’s outcomes and learning questions and you’ll have the chance to hear a grantee’s perspective on contributing to the theory of change, outcomes, and shaping the learning process, as well as how Headwaters staff brought the board along on the journey. Participants will leave this session with new tools and approaches that the foundation used in its learning process.
