Workshop at Maine Philanthropy Center Conference

The Values, Culture, and Practices of Trust-Based Philanthropy

This workshop is part of MPC’s Philanthropy Partners Conference and registration is required. For more information and to register, click here.

Trust-based philanthropy has gained sector-wide attention as a strategy to alleviate power imbalances, advance equity, and nurture nonprofit growth and sustainability. Driven by the central philosophy that funders should approach grantee relationships as learning partnerships, a trust-based approach encourages multi-year unrestricted funding, streamlined reporting, and transparent and responsive communication. Core to this approach is also a commitment to embedding power-awareness and self-reflection in all aspects of our work -- internally within our organizations, externally with grantee partners, and systemically within our sector as a whole. What does it look like to put these values to action? And how must we reimagine traditional roles -- boards, staff, leadership -- in order to advance this vision of trust and equity? And how does this approach benefit funders and grantees alike? Join us for an engaging discussion where we will break down the values and principles of trust-based philanthropy, and hear directly from a funder and nonprofit leader that have done the work of building trust-based culture and relationships.
