The Power of Trust and Relationships in Philanthropy: a webinar for Hawaii-based funders, in collaboration with Next Gen Donor Hui
Trust-Based Philanthropy is being embraced by a growing number of foundations as a way to alleviate power imbalances between funders and grantees while fostering more productive and informative relationships. Driven by the central philosophy that funders should approach grantee relationships as learning partnerships, a trust-based approach encourages multi-year unrestricted funding, streamlined reporting, and transparent and responsive communication. In this session, participants will hear from John Esterle, Co-Executive Director of The Whitman Institute, and Shaady Salehi, Director of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project. Together, John and Shaady will discuss the fundamental values and behaviors that undergird a trust-based approach, as well as the six principles of how to embody trust-based philanthropy in your grantmaking practice. Participants will learn about how foundations and grantees both benefit from a trust-based approach, and will have a chance to consider some practical next steps to build more productive and balanced funder-grantee relationships.
This webinar is free and open to Hawaii-based funders. Register here.
